It's always fun to speculate what the next color trend in Interior Design might be. Even if you choose not to follow the trend it's fun to try to stay ahead of the curve or at least be able to recognize patterns in the design you experience all around you.

It’s always fun to speculate what the next color trend in Interior Design might be. If you know me at all, you know I love color. Working on a project is easy, but in my own home - I am so influenced by colors around me that I find myself wanting a different color in each room. I have to be careful to avoid turning my home into a color circus!

At the beginning of each year new trends in color are announced. Pantone, one of the worlds leading color authorities announce their pick for "color of the year" in January each year. This year they have announced Turquoise (Pantone 15-5519) as their "Color of the Year".

After the color was announced, I reflected on how I've used turquoise recently in a few homes. What can I say? I'm ahead of the curve! This choice of color is natural given the current economic climate. If you study the emotional effects that color has on people you'll learn some things about Turquoise.

If we break the color down it is a combination of blues and greens. Green is the warmest of the "cool" colors. It's association with yellow gives it a pleasant cheerful feeling while it's association with blue has a calming effect. Green is naturally associated with nature and inspires a "Yes" or "Go for it" attitude. Blue is the coolest of the "cool" colors. It has been proven to lower blood pressure, body temperature, and aid in the healing process. Blue is said to encourage thought and meditation and creates a feeling of spaciousness.

Regardless of whether or not you decide to use turquoise in your decorating this year you're sure to spot turquoise in this year's trends.
